Laboratory for Economics of Innovation in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of Innovation Studies.

The Laboratory’s mission is to contribute significantly to the development and use of the national innovation systems (NIS) framework.  It does so by studying interactions between NIS actors, including firms, research organisations, and the labour force as well as broader population, and the innovation processes they engage in. Understanding the behavior of these actors contributes to analysis of the conditions of application for different regulatory instruments and the evaluation of their efficiency.

Requirements 
● Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of innovation studies or related areas which was awarded over the last 5 years or received before starting work at HSE in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;
● Candidates should have a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative research methods (including deep understanding of the powers and limitations of econometrics, surveys, interviews and case studies), ability to work in team and contribute to the ongoing long-term projects.
● Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required;
● Relevant experience in computational social science methods will be an asset although not required.
 

The position involves:
●      working under the direct supervision of Dr. Vitaliy Roud, deputy head of the Laboratory for Economics of Innovation
●      participants are encouraged to pursue their own research along with working on LEI research projects such as:

• Microeconometric studies of science, technology and innovation (including firms, R&D organizations, universities, etc.)
• Innovation scoreboards and measurement of the aggregate performance of the national innovation systems (NIS)
• Institutional analysis of NIS, e.g. business climate for innovation, barriers to innovation and pathways of technological/institutional change;
• Economics of Emerging & Enabling technologies and technological transformations; Social and User Innovation.

●      writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals in co-authorship with the members of the Laboratory;
●      participation in the events of the Laboratory and other contribution to the Lab’s development;
●      public presentations of candidate’s own research to the academic community;
●      some teaching is encouraged, though not required.

Conditions

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance.

HSE University offers postdoctoral fellows a competitive salary, the standard medical insurance plan, a working space equipped with a computer and free Internet access at the University.

The Laboratory offers access to its empirical assets subject to negotiation based on the particular formats of contribution to the LEI’s research projects.
