Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurobiology of Language

The Centre for Language and Brain at the HSE University in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of Neurobiology of Language.

Requirements

The general requirements for the postdoctoral fellowship positions are the following:

●     Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Speech-Language Pathology, Computer Science or related areas awarded over the last 5 years (or to be received before starting work at HSE) by an internationally recognized university;

●     Candidates should have:

o  A strong theoretical background and practical experience in neuroscience methods, such as EEG, iEEG, MEG, fMRI, DTI, TMS, TES, etc., including paradigm programming, data collection, data processing and statistical analysis,

o  Ability to work in a team,

o  Excellent academic writing skills,

o  The potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals.

●      Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required.

The position involves:

●     Working under the direct supervision of Dr. Olga Dragoy, the Director of the Centre for Language and Brain;

●     Participants are encouraged to pursue their own research along with working on the ongoing research projects of the Centre for Language and Brain in the field of neurobiology of language. Depending on the candidate’s background, the following methods may be chosen:

o  Scalp EEG in healthy adults and/or typically and atypically developing children;

o  MEG in healthy adults and/or typically and atypically developing children;

o  Intracranial EEG in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy;

o  fMRI in patients with brain tumors and drug-resistant epilepsy;

o  TMS and/or TES in healthy adults and/or patients after stroke.

●     Writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals in co-authorship with members of the Centre;

●     Participation in the events of the Centre and other contributions to the Centre’s development;

●     Public presentations of the candidate’s own research to the academic community;

●     Some teaching and student supervision are encouraged, though not required.

Conditions

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have a high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance.

HSE University offers postdoctoral fellows a competitive salary, the standard medical insurance plan; a working space equipped with a computer and free Internet access at the University.

The Centre for Language and Brain offers access to various healthy (children, young and aging adults, bilingual speakers) and clinical populations (including patients with aphasia, epilepsy, and brain tumors) and equipment (128-channel scalp EEG, intracranial EEG, 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners, high-speed eye-tracker, TMS, tDCS and tACS), available at HSE or through clinical partners. The Centre is located in an historic area in the heart of Moscow.
