Requirements

The general requirements for the postdoctoral fellowship positions are the following:

●     Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of Education, Sociology, Psychology or related areas which was awarded over the last 5 years or received before starting work at HSE University in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;

●     Candidates should have a strongtrack record of successfully doing research within the areas the Center is focusing on.

●      Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required;

●     Relevant experience will be an asset although not required.

The position involves:

●     working under the direct supervision of Ivan Gruzdev (director of the Center);

●     participants are encouraged to work on research projects of the Center such as:

o  The longitudinal panel cohort study of Russian students

o  The project focused on the factors of doctoral students’ success

●     writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals in co-authorship with the members of the Center of Sociology of Higher Education;

●     participation in the events of the Center of Sociology of Higher Education and Institute of Education, as well as other contribution to the Center’s development;

●     public presentations of candidate’s own research to the academic community;

●     some teaching is encouraged, though not required.

Conditions

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance.

HSE University offers postdoctoral fellows a competitive salary, the standard medical insurance plan; a working space equipped with a computer and free Internet access at the University.

We welcome candidates interested in the research agenda of the Center and suggest joining one of the ongoing projects:

1. The longitudinal panel cohort study of Russian students, which is focused on the identification of students’ models of educational behavior. This study is based on mental models suggested by Fischman and Gardner. During four years we plan to assess students’ educational outcomes as well as their demographics, behavioral characteristics, etc. Additionally, to quantitative data we run a qualitative study, which includes semi-structured interviews with students. The project requires a researcher with strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills. 
2. The project focused on the factors of doctoral students’ success including motivation for embarking on doctoral programs, quality of supervision, pre-doctorate background, as well as financial, social, and academic support. The project is mostly based on data from several surveys of doctoral students and graduates at Russian universities and research institutes, however additional data of various kinds can be collected. The project requires a researcher with strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills.
