Postdoctoral Fellow in Social Anthropology

The Centre for Historical Research HSE St Petersburg, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of social anthropology.

Requirements

The general requirements for this postdoctoral fellowship positions are as following:

●    Candidates must hold a recent PhD from an internationally recognised university in the field of social anthropology or related disciplines awarded before start date of work at the HSE and within the last 5 years;

●    Candidates will have demonstrable potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;

●    Candidates are expected to have a strong theoretical and ethnographic background in the anthropology of global post-socialism, with regional and topical specialisation open, including, but not limited to, the anthropology of the politics, economy, religion, science, the digital and the anthropocene.

●     Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required.

The position involves:

• working in a vibrant and growing anthropological community of HSE St Petersburg under the supervision of Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov;
• pursue their own research along with working on the Center for Historical Research’s research project:

o  “Social anthropology of late Soviet institutions”

• writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals;
• participation in the events of the Center of Historical Research and other contribution to the Center for Historical Research’s development;
• presenting candidate’s own research to the academic community and the broader public;
• some teaching is encouraged, though not required.

Conditions

Appointments are normally made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have an opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times).

HSE University offers postdoctoral fellows a competitive salary, the standard medical insurance plan, a working space equipped with a computer and free Internet access at the University.
