Banking in Emerging Markets

Postdoctoral research positions. Deadline: April 1, 2015

The Higher School of Economics Center for Institutional Studies (CInSt) in Moscow, Russia (), invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the project “Banking in Emerging Markets.” Academic supervisor is Maria Semenova, Research Fellow and Associate Professor at the CInSt, HSE.

The job involves:

• working under the direct supervision of Maria Semenova, Research Fellow and Associate Professor at the CInSt, HSE (msemenova@hse.ru)
• the job requires pursuing participant’s own research as well as involvement in CInSt's research projects in the fields of banking (including different banking markets as well as regulation aspects) and households’ financial behavior in Russia and other emerging economies.
• the postdoc fellow is expected to prepare at least one research paper (preferably in co-authorship with the CInSt researchers) ready to be submitted to an international peer-reviewed journal
• the postdoc fellow is expected to give at least two presentations at the CInSt research seminars
• research-related teaching is also encouraged. The postdoc fellow is welcome to give several guest lectures to the students within the courses and research seminars given by the CInSt faculty
• participation in organization of the events and other contribution to the CInSt development is highly encouraged

Research topics include:

• Banking in Russia;
• Institutional changes in banking: cross-country analysis;
• Households’ financial strategies in emerging economies

CInSt provides the access to the databases covering Russian banks’ financial statements as well as Russian household longitudinal surveys

Required qualifications:

• a PhD degree in Economics or Finance from a recognized international institution by Fall, 2015;
• PhD research topic close to the CInSt topics, strong empirical skills and interest in applied empirical research;
• proficiency in spoken and written English.
