International Faculty Recruitment Initiative (IRI) was founded to recruit professional academics from international research universities in order to raise the standards of research at HSE University.

From its modest beginnings as an initiative of the HSE’s International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) with our partners from the London School of Economics as the driver, HSE University now employs over 100 international tenure track faculty, over 40 postdoctoral fellows in different faculties, research labs and centres in Moscow and at the HSE campuses in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm.

On November 4-6, as part of Inventing the Future International Symposium hosted by the National Centre RUSSIA, the HSE Centre for Language and Brain facilitated a discussion titled 'Evolution of the Brain: How Does the World Change Us?' Researchers from the country's leading universities, along with health professionals and neuroscience popularisers, discussed specific aspects of human brain function.

On 20 July 2024, Pietro A. Shakarian, postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Historical Research at HSE in Petersburg, presented at the International Armenological Congress at the Matenadaran in Yerevan. Dr. Shakarian’s talk was entitled “From St. Petersburg to Syunik: Advancing Armenian Studies in Russia’s Northern Capital”. The presentation explored the current state of historical-scientific studies related to Armenia and the Caucasus in St. Petersburg.

Giovanni Pirari is a Research Fellow at the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue. He is interested in Russian language, history, and poetry, with a particular focus on visual and symbolic representation. In an interview with the HSE News Service, Giovanni discusses his spiritual understanding of the Russian language, his first encounter with the world of Dostoevsky, and his experience living in Moscow.
