The Institute of Education of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia invites applications for full-time, tenure-track positions of Assistant Professor in Education, in education policy studies, economics of education, organization studies, leadership studies, psychometrics, and sociology of education. Knowledge of Russian is not required as teaching and research are both conducted in English.
We particularly invite applications to join our most active and strong research centres headed by outstanding international scholars: prof. Martin Carnoy (Stanford University), prof. Jan De Groof (College of Europe and Tilburg University).
Assistant professor with the International Laboratory for Education Policy Analysis
The Laboratory is headed by prof. Martin Carnoy, a labor economist with a special interest in the political economy of the educational system. He specializes in comparative analysis. The Laboratory carries out quantitative assessment of education quality factors and analyses inequality in education. In this role, you will focus on one of the following issues: How do schools work with pupils in different social contexts? What mechanisms improve educational results of pupils from different socio-economic background? How does the school shape the pupils’ educational trajectories? What are the links between the educational trajectory and the pupil’s life success? Our research is conducted based on Russian and international cross-sectional and longitudinal data drawing on state-of-the-art methods of quantitative analysis. We are ideally looking for experts with sociological, psychological or economic backgrounds with knowledge of contemporary methods of statistical data analysis and with an interest in publishing in top-international journals. The supervision will be done by prof. Martin Carnoy and ass.prof. Prashant Loyalka (Stanford University).
Assistant Professor with the Center for Education Law
The Laboratory is headed by prof. Jan De Groof who is known for his international experience and contribution to the promotion of fundamental rights in the sphere of education, research, minority issues, and culture. The mission of the Centre is to become an internationally recognized leading competence center in the field of international, comparative and national education law and policy. We conduct fundamental legal research in the field of federalism in education, inequality in education, accountability and autonomy in education. We strive to become a leading teaching center in the field of education law and policy, in particular Russian, and international policies and comparative education law. We have a direct impact on education policy and the development of Russian legislation with a focus on increasing transparency and implementing best practices in the field of education law and policy.

Requirements
Candidates must hold a recentPh.D. in education or related fields from a research-intensive university, or to be in receipt of the PhD before the starting date of the contract. The successful candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research publishable in reputable peer-reviewed journals with research support provided by the University. The appointments will be made for three years in the first instance, starting in September 2018, with reviews of teaching and research during the third year.
Benefits
The salary is competitive, indexed to inflation annually, and subject to 13% flat income tax. The university offers health insurance (free of charge), language assistance, and other social benefits; travel support and other research assistance are generous. Since we have heavy emphasis placed on high quality research, the teaching load of newly hired faculty is relatively low and service expectations are minimal.
