International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism

The Higher School of Economics International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism (IL WORNS) at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow invites applications for postdoctoral positions to play a key role in laboratory’s research projects in the further academic fields:

The last several decades have witnessed an ever-increasing spread of regional institutions and informal initiatives. This wave of the new regionalism, as this development has been called, leads to a key question regarding the long-term perspectives of the global world order: how do regional institutions, régimes, and organizations reinforce global governance (e.g., financial stability, free trade, sustainable development, etc.), how rising powers influence this trend and how they can use it on their advantage and, and how does regionalism fragment the global system and weaken its manageability? This already existing phenomenon in world politics entails both new opportunities and risks for the world order and global governance.

The current projects undertaken by the Laboratory are focusing on the multidisciplinary research, different factors, influencing the evolution or the global international system, with a strong accent on the deep regional studies. The laboratory’s projects include such fields as the study of the influence of Russia on the evolution of the global order; role of the other emerging powers; the influence of technologies on the international order; development of the regional and mega-regional integration projects and initiatives; study of BRICS and its role in the transformation of the global economic and political order, etc.
