From December 16–18, the HSE Academic Writing Centre held a ‘Writers’ Retreat’ aimed at giving HSE University researchers an opportunity to look at their texts from a different perspective. Students of Critical Media Studies Carry out Research on Monsters and Horror
Traditionally, humans have imagined monsters as the exact opposite of themselves: huge, violent, or invisible and soulless beasts. This is apparent in many examples in cinema. However, the image of monsters on the screen transforms with time. A group of Critical Media Studies master’s students organised an event covering the topic of how this transformation takes place at the ‘Playing with Fear: New Image of Monsters in Horror Films’ round table on December 10th.
Second Congress of Young Scientists: Students Are Ready to Implement Breakthrough Projects
The 2nd Congress of Young Scientists was held at the Sirius Park of Science and Art in Sochi. HSE University representatives took an active part in it, working at various venues where a wide range of topics were discussed—from university development to machine learning and scientific cinema.
“Toward a More Perfect Union”: Dr. Pietro Shakarian on Anastas Mikoyan's nationality policy reform in the USSR
On December 2, Dr. Pietro Shakarian presented his paper “Toward a More Perfect Union? Anastas Mikoyan and Nationality Policy Reform in the USSR, 1954–1964” about the role of A. Mikoyan in the formation of Soviet national policy after the death of Stalin in the framework of the research seminar held by the Center for Historical Research and the Department of History.
HSE Researchers Contribute to Artificial Intelligence Journey Conference
The AI Journey international conference is a major platform for sharing cutting-edge innovations in artificial intelligence and machine learning. In late November 2022, AIJ was once again hosted by Sber. The conference was attended by HSE researchers from the Faculty of Computer Science and the Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

Its courses are taken alongside core curriculum. Research that Will Help Fight Corruption
Emmanuel Adu Sarfo, 23, from Ghana, is a second-year master's student on the HSE Economics and Economic Policy programme. He is carrying out research on the ancient roots of corruption that influence its prevalence in different countries. Student Tutor Gives Talk at ICEF on Cryptocurrencies and NFTs
Cryptocurrencies have fallen to two-year low after FTX exchange filed for bankruptcy in November 2022, sending shock waves through the crypto world and agitating investors to revise their strategies and predictions as to what will happen on the digital investment market. In her talk called Cryptocurrencies and NFT, Victoria Dobrynskaya explained the volatility of crypto markets and expanded on the phenomenon of NFT as a digital asset.
